A Mastercard is good to have.
Got a Mastercard? If not, you better get one!
In today's world, a credit card is almost a necessity. Everyone should have at least one basic card, whether it be a Mastercard, a Visa or a Discover card. That way, if your car breaks down or you have some other unexpected expense, you're covered. But don't treat your credit card as a license to spend. In fact, if you're concerned that you won't be responsible with your Mastercard, then you might want to consider a prepaid Mastercard instead. That way, you send in the money so you have a low limit, and since you've already paid in advance, you don't have to worry about getting your payments in on time. The best part is that you set the limit.
Of course, if you get a Mastercard with a high limit, you could always ask them to lower the limit. Some credit card companies will even let you set up alerts so that when your balance reaches a certain dollar amount, they will automatically let you know via phone or email. That's an excellent way to keep your spending in check.
Another good idea is to transfer any amount you put on your card from your checking account to a savings account. That way, when the end of the month rolls around, you've got the money to pay the bill off in full, thereby avoiding interest and finance charges. Of course, eventually this may become a tedious task and you might decide to pay by debit card anyway.
Either way, keeping track of your credit card spending is a good way to avoid being in debt. So look twice, three time even, before you go running off to apply for another Sears Mastercard to add to the mix.
